MMD2123 Project Proposal

Introduction: An interactive edutainment game whereby a user will need to deliver food supplies and clothes to the orang asli in Temiar Settlement as a token of appreciation for visiting them.

Objectives: To give a virtual experience of getting to Temiar Settlement, Pos Chiong, Tasik Banding, Gerik and to give an awareness of the geographical location, ecology and culture there.

Target Audience: Teenagers and young adults.

User Task: To navigate the area using a virtual kayak towards the destination which is Temiar settlement in Pos Chiong based on the map given to deliver the food and clothes and learn about their culture in return.

Detail Description: User begins by choosing the desired kayak, paddle, and Personal Floating Device (PFD). The goal is to navigate through the lake by kayaking towards the destination, which is the Temiar Settlement, to deliver the supplies and to be able to learn their culture. The supplies will be put in the dry bag which will be strapped on the kayak. The map is divided into 4 pieces, each one is placed at a certain checkpoint. User begins the journey with the first piece of the map towards the first checkpoint, where there will be an obstacle. Each time they pass the obstacle, the new piece of map will be given, which will bring them closer and closer to the destination. Every checkpoint has a different obstacle, such as boats trafficking, water ripples that can cause the kayak to capsize, passing by area with a lot of dead tree barks, and aggressive fishes like Toman.

Change of proposal.

As to the previous one, I decided to focus more on the birth, marriage and death in orang asli culture.

Introduction: "Are we aware that there are about 147,412 orang asli in our country and the majority of them reside in 869 villages in Peninsular Malaysia?

Most of them are divided into three major ethnic groups – Negrito, Senoi and Proto-Malays –and Pahang tops the list of having the most number of Orang Asli with 54,293 while Kedah has the least with only 232.

Within the groups, they are sub-divided into several clans, which we Malaysians do not know much about." (from The Star)

Objectives: To provide information regarding the rituals and celebration on birth, marriage and death in the orang asli community.

Target Audience: Young adults and adults.

User Task: To interact with the interface of the cut out view of orang asli houses.

Detail Description: An interactive application about the celebration and rituals during birth, marriage and death of the Orang Asli in Malaysia. The application will be more into how, what, where, when, and who during the rituals and celebrations. It will be focusing more on their culture, but still something in common with any other races.

Concept: Illustrations of orang asli homes in their settlement, in a cut out/see through view.

Project Proposal: Orang Asli Settlement

Introduction: "Are we aware that there are about 147,412 orang asli in our country and the majority of them reside in 869 villages in Peninsular Malaysia?

Most of them are divided into three major ethnic groups – Negrito, Senoi and Proto-Malays –and Pahang tops the list of having the most number of Orang Asli with 54,293 while Kedah has the least with only 232.

Within the groups, they are sub-divided into several clans, which we Malaysians do not know much about." (from The Star)

Objectives: To provide information regarding orang asli settlement such as the brief information about their background, types of shelters, weapons, handcrafts, how they scout for a location for a new settlement and an image gallery for users to view on.

Target Audience: Anyone above 16 years old who is interested to learn more about the Orang Asli. Reason is, by the age of 16, majority of students in local high school have learned how to read topographical map during geography class in school.

User Task: To interact with the interface of the topographical map to view the content. Interactive buttons may be the topographical elements on the map (examples: river, highland, valley)

Detail Description: An interactive application about the Orang Asli in Malaysia. Some topics that will be covered is their background, the nature of their settlement, workmanships (weapons, handcrafts, huts) and a few snapshots for the image gallery. The mood and feel of the application will be more towards the sense of geographical + travel adventure. References for mood of application: National Geographic

Concept: Topographical Map of Orang Asli settlement in Malaysia

An example of topographical map design. Actual design proposed for the interface of application will be based on actual malaysian topographical map.
